The threshold adapts to traffic — on a quiet site, the busiest few lists are Hot; on a busy site, "Hot" means a flood. Live, Rising, and Fresh are similar at-a-glance signals: Live = vote in the last 5 minutes; Rising = high vote velocity for its size; Fresh = new list that's already drawing interest.

Editor-picked top-100s become stale. Search results for "best espresso machines" are dominated by listicles written for SEO and never updated. Community votes are noisy in the short term but converge on real consensus over time, and the rankings actually move when something better comes along.

No. We never sell user data, and there are no sponsored lists or paid placements. The only thing on the page that's monetized (eventually) is affiliate links on item external URLs, clearly labeled when present. The voting is and will stay independent.
